CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- If you like to celebrate Halloween by scaring yourself silly, there are a number of ghostly events around the state this month. Here's a look at a few of the major ones:

Camden Park:The park's Spooktacular runs 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through October. It includes more than 20 rides and attractions decorated for the season, including a haunted house, the Witches Maze and a haunted train ride.

Admission is $18. Camden Park is on U.S. 60 West in Huntington. Call 866-CAMDEN or visit www.camdenpark.com. (A $5 discount coupon for this weekend is available on the site.)

Milton corn maize: On Oct. 23-24 and 30-31, this popular attraction shuts down at dusk to transform into the "Field of Screams." The maize usually re-opens between 7:30 and 8 p.m. The haunting, which changes every year, might include chainsaws and clowns among other creepy things.

The maize is behind Milton Middle School on U.S. 60 West. Admission is $9. No reservations or discounts accepted. Call 304-634-MAZE.

Parkersburg: The Haunted Parkersburg Ghost Tour, now in its 13th season, has tours remaining every Friday and Saturday through Nov. 7. (You also can book a private tour if you have a party of eight or more.) The two-hour leisurely two-mile walk takes you to haunted houses, graveyards and other places. Learn the tales of the Banshee of Marrtown, the East End Ghoul, Mothman, the Men in Black and the alien Indrid Cold.

Tours meet at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Blennerhassett Hotel. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students and $6 for children 13 and under. (Tour is not recommended for children under 6.) Call 304-428-7978 or visit users.wirefire.com/magick.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum: The haunted house at this former mental hospital in Weston is situated in the tuberculosis hospital. The tour includes the children's ward, administration offices and the basement -- where you'll meet Dr. Cerberus, who experiments on patients to cultivate a rare drug that can extend life. Unfortunately, procuring it often turns the patients into flesh-eating zombies.

Other events include a fall festival on Oct. 22-25, which offers flashlight asylum tours at 8 p.m. nightly; an asylum ghost hunt Oct. 21 from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. ($100); a Witches Ball costume party from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 31 ($15) and a ghost hunt from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 ($150, includes ball admission). Tickets for hunts will sell out.

Haunted house tickets are $15 or $25 for VIP (with priority line spot). Purchase them on-line in advance or at the asylum up to an hour before the tour. Hours are dark to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and dark to midnight Friday and Saturday. The asylum is closed Oct. 30. Call 304-269-5070 or visit www.theasylumwv.com.

West Virginia Penitentiary: The annual Dungeon of Horrors at the former Moundsville prison runs every Friday through Sunday through Oct. 31. Tours depart every 15 minutes from 7 to 9:45 p.m. (although some times might be sold out). On the tour, you'll be locked in a cell, travel through a dungeon of horrors and face the possibility of being lost in a maze.

Tickets are $18 and must be purchased on-line in advance at www.wvpentours.com. Call 304-845-6200.
